DPIIT Startup Recognition.
Startup India registration is, in practice, the route to DPIIT recognition: the government certificate confirming that your entity is a start-up under the current definition. We check your eligibility, write your innovation case and file the recognition application on the National Single Window System, so the start-up benefits linked to recognition, including the tax holiday application, become open to you.
Typically about a week to prepare and file once your documents are in; DPIIT's review time and any clarification it asks for then decide when recognition is issued.
A partner — a chartered accountant or company secretary — from the first call to sign-off.
Based on your situation, and fixed in writing before any work starts.
Is this for you?
- Private limited companies, LLPs, registered partnership firms and cooperative societies within ten years of incorporation (twenty for deep tech start-ups).
- Founders who plan to apply for the start-up tax holiday or raise money through convertible notes, both of which need recognition first.
- Businesses that want recognition in place before incubator programmes, government tenders or investor due diligence.
What you receive at the end.
- 01Eligibility note confirming the recognition track (regular or deep tech)
- 02Innovation write-up used in the application
- 03Filed application on NSWS with acknowledgement
- 04DPIIT recognition certificate and recognition number, if granted
- 05A list of the follow-on benefits and filings now open to you
DPIIT Startup Recognition, step by step.
Typically about a week to prepare and file once your documents are in; DPIIT's review time and any clarification it asks for then decide when recognition is issued.
- 1
Eligibility check
We confirm your entity type, age and turnover in every year since incorporation, and that the business is not a split-up or reconstruction of an existing one. We also decide whether the regular or deep tech track fits.
- 2
Innovation write-up
We draft the description of the problem you solve, your product, process or service, and why it is innovative or scalable, backed by your website, pitch deck or product material.
- 3
Portal accounts
We set up your Startup India profile and your account on the National Single Window System (NSWS), where the 'Registration as a Startup' form is filed.
- 4
Application filing
We complete the form with entity, founder and business details, upload the incorporation certificate and supporting documents, and submit the declarations.
- 5
Queries and certificate
We answer any clarification DPIIT raises and, if recognition is granted, download the certificate and record the recognition number for later filings.
What we need from you.
Don't have everything yet? We send a short checklist after the first call and work with what you have.
- Certificate of incorporation or registration, with the LLP agreement or partnership deed where applicable
- PAN of the entity
- Names, contact details and identity documents of directors or partners
- Turnover for each financial year since incorporation
- A short note on the product, process or service and what makes it innovative or scalable
- Website, pitch deck, product demo or video link
- Patents, trademarks, awards, grants or funding letters, if any
The fee depends on your situation. After a short call, the partner who will do the work tells you what's involved and gives you a fixed fee in writing — before any work begins.
- Government fees and statutory charges are billed at actuals.
- When you pay — upfront, in stages or on completion — is agreed in writing with the fee.
